Lighten Up

June 22, 2020

Welcome to the heart of our home – our kitchen! Not only is it my favorite room, it literally is in the middle of the house. We recently completed a full home renovation in order to add a suite on for my mom, who moved in with us over 3 years ago after my dad passed away. I am super proud of how the space turned out. There was just one (well, maybe 3) little things wrong with it…

Those 3 little things were the tiny black island pendant lights! During the renovation we were moving so quickly and selecting materials so fast (oh, and did I mention bleeding money?). When my contractor needed all the lighting on site we mad a very rash decision and tried to be budget conscious and selected the black pendants. I never really was happy and always felt they were wrong for the space, but sometimes you just go with the flow and against your gut.

As a designer, a woman (and one who is 8-1/2 months pregnant at that) I reserve the right to change my mind, and, in this case, I definitely changed my mind! I knew 3 pendants would technically fit… but had a feeling as 2 were hung that as the magic number and sweet spot.

I have worked with and specified Kichler Lighting for many of my clients’ projects in the past so when it came time to picking the proper pendant lights for my space, I knew I was going to select from their line. When I saw the Kichler Elias White convertible pendants I instantly knew they were the ones.

I still had hubby hold the third one up, and ultimately hang it in place, BUT two pendants were the perfect quantity & scale!

Scale is the size of one object in relation to the other objects in a design  and those old black pendants were just not cutting it – AT ALL! Out with the wrong and in with the new, and right.

The softness of the white pan-inspired shape of the shade and the subtle gold interior finish coordinate and accentuate all of the existing gold hardware and plumbing perfectly!

I am so happy with the overall farmhouse modern feel these beautiful new Kichler pendants have brought to our home!

We’re here for the fun

May 10, 2020

Have you ever tried searching for neutral & masculine party decor on Pinterest or Google? Well, I have, and there really isn’t much out there! Typically when I plan an event or party it is filled with colors and themes that coordinate with my home decor and my Instagram feed. If you follow me on Instagram you will know my feed is known for pops of pink and teal most days! I was struggling with how to throw a casual birthday party for my hubby all while giving him all of his favorite things (and have it fit in with my typical aesthetic). I figured out a genius idea, well, so I thought anyways… all neutral with pops of black & whites and then his girls would be dolled up in pink! I think we nailed it! How about you?

The key was keeping things super casual, very neutral, and mostly minimal. Guys don’t need (or want for that matter) a lot of fuss, am I right? We covered our dining room table with brown craft paper and a great black and white striped paper for a little extra pop. It’s a excellent pallet in order to add accessories or treats in any color and have it work for any occasion.

I always get all of the best items from The Party Darling! She has all the perfect decor, tableware & accessories for all things party & holiday! Here is a list of all the goodies I used for this party!

Cups
 Plates
Napkins
Flatware Set
YAY balloon - Gold
15" Gold Orb Balloon
15" Silver Orb Balloon
Paper party fans

I love a good neutral pallet. Some of my favorite tableware and home accessories are linked here as well!

White bowls
Black bowls
Wood Lazy Susan
Gray Marble Lazy Susan
Wood & Metal Rack (similar)
White Cake Stand
Wood & Marble Cutting Board
Gold Flatware
White Rectangular Serving Platter
White Swoop Serving Bowl
White Dinner Plate
Square Snack Bowl
Ice Cream Scoop
Brown Craft Paper Roll
White Craft Paper Roll
Black and White Paper Roll

Cheers & Happy Birthday to my main squeeze and the one who makes all my dreams come true! Here’s to the next one!

Ain’t life peachy

May 2, 2020

Mother’s Day is fast approaching and even though the country is mostly on lock-down from the Coronavirus, I wouldn’t let this holiday go by without doing even something small…and pretty! I am starting with a little bar cart set up to prepare for the at-home brunch we shall have the day of!

If you couldn’t tell from the title, the color scheme and theme is “just peachy”. Peach was a great start but I had to throw in some soft blush and pale lavender too, because, why not? Well, really, I was inspired to add those colors after Grace Rose Farm so generously gifted me two dozen gorgeous organic heirloom roses! These roses are seriously some of the most fragrant flowers I have ever smelled, not to mention, look how beautifully they fluff up and bloom!

You may be thinking “Eeeeeek, I don’t have a cute bar cart like that!” Don’t worry… you can always set something like this up on the kitchen counter, a dining table or a console table! PS, IF you ARE looking for an amazing bar cart and happen to like this one, here is the link to mine shown here! (Check out these alternate options here & here).

Most all of the adorable tableware and accessories are from, the one and only, Target! I absolutely love shopping in the bullseye section (AKA the dollar spot). I snag things there all the time! You never know when you want to do a little impromptu brunch or party. I have linked the party goods here! Check out the plates, napkins, cups, silverware, water pitcher & cakestand! Additional napkins here and here as well as the peachy plates!

One of my favorite home accessories is this 18″ wide Rettle Kraft Paper Roller. I recently purchased the decorative accessory shelf and a roll of white paper to keep things light and airy and to coordinate with my new White GE Cafe Refrigerator (which has been my dream since completing our home remodel!) Next on the purchase list is the matching Oven–Microwave combo and Dishwasher.

The only thing left to do now is planning the brunch menu, come up with a signature cocktail (for mom), and a mocktail recipe for my 6-month pregnant self! Stay tuned for that blog, coming soon!

It’s all in the details

February 19, 2020

These Rustica custom barn doors are breathing life into our space, but it wasn’t always like this! See the transformation!

In June 2016 my husband and I purchased this quaint little home in Delray Beach, Florida. We were super excited because it was pretty much turn-key. The previous owner’s did an amazing job at creating a clean, crisp home ready for someone to come and bring it life. It was very “basic”, in modern-day terms (as shown below).

As a kitchen and bath designer, I immediately started making decisions to add unique character and special details to change this builder-grade home to a custom home. One of our initial projects was the master bedroom. We added molding to the main wall, installed pendant lights over our side tables, painted a fresh light and bright color, and modern furnishings!

Shortly after we moved, my mom made the best decision and decided to move in with us because we found out we were expecting our first child. Not only did the news of us expecting & mom moving in turn our world upside down, we got even crazier and decided to completely remodel our home and add on a mother-in-law suite. Out we moved for 6 months. Let the construction commence.

Things were looking so good! New floors, fresh paint, and custom details like these built-ins and dark trim!

I must say though, I hated the “plain-jane” way our bedroom transitioned to our closest & master bathroom area. In addition, the room craved much-need light. I have always loved barn doors and was searching for a space in our home I could implement them. At first glance, this area wasn’t a candidate, but after much thought and tons of research online, I found the perfect solution, Rustica. They make the most gorgeous barn doors. Our space is very specific. It required bi-parting doors since the adjacent wall space wasn’t going to allow a typical single barn door.

Our space would also require some construction, but I was determined to have a Rustica Modern Cottage French Barn Door. I reached out to them and their customer service was amazing! They answered every single question I had and helped me plan the perfect door for our space.

As a designer, I could see the entire design and space complete in my head, but my hubby and mom needed a visual, hence this little sketch below. It became the perfect tool and helped us all fall in love even faster! That being said, we ordered away!

Five short weeks later, our custom Rustica double-sided bi-parting metal barn doors arrived! In the meantime, my contractor and his crew built down a header for the track to mount to. I painted and prepared the space so as soon as the door arrived it could be installed. I wasted zero time. My contractor came right away and here she is in all her glory!

The best part, as stated above, we chose to do double-sided mirrored doors so that when the doors were closed we could use them as our dressing mirrors from the closet/bathroom side of the room.

The Rustica doors reflect so much light and bring so much character to our space. The black metal frame ties in our trim, interiors doors, and industrial farmhouse accents. Not to mention, they are the best try-on & selfie mirrors ever!

I will just leave these gorgeous photos here and we can all bask in the beautiful Rustica doors together!

Bootiful Cocktail

November 6, 2019

I have always wanted to make a pretty cocktail (or mocktail) that went with the theme and decor of my party. Am I the only one? I can’t be! This bootiful & refreshing blackberry cocktail was exactly what I had in mind!

I have no clue where my muddler was, so here I am improvising with a wooden spoon handle…and it worked just fine!

Just 3 simple ingredients (5 if you count the ice & garnish)…

Come stay a while

August 19, 2019

This little guest room has been one of the most fun projects to date! I have loved getting creative and using lots of different textures and brands to finalize the perfect welcoming, comfy, lived-in industrial farmhouse chic guest room!

I’ve been a designer for over 15 years and one of my favorite pieces for a room is an area rug. An area rug to me is the starting point. It grounds the room and creates the inspiration for the design direction. I knew as soon as I saw this Loloi rug from their Layla Collection it was the perfect fit! The taupe and stone colors were just the ideal tones to accent our Sherwin Williams trim paint color SW7674 Peppercorn.

We added a custom trim detail on the wall. It was super simple and easy. I divided the room into three sections. Planning for just enough room to put the queen size Kelly Storage Bed by Shop the Novogratz. It is a simple 1×3 poplar wood trim that we cut and sanded down and then painted the same wall color, Benjamin Moore 1555 Winter Orchard.

Last we added some much needed texture with pillows from TJmaxx (similar ones here and here) , standing floor lamp from Target (similar one here and here), a wall sconce by My Mitzi, as well as a few great TJMaxx Mango wood side tables (similar ones here and here).

Quality + Quantity

February 25, 2019

I am so stoked to announce I have discovered the Chupacabra…it’s a real thing and it’s name is Lorena Canals Rugs! As a mom and designer I am always searching for practicality, function and beauty in home decor. Back in 1990, Lorena Canals pioneered washable rugs, which meets so many of my needs, and must meet the needs of so many other people. I am so thankful she did! I love that the brand takes immense pride in all that they do and it truly shows.

I honored to be collaborating with Lorena Canals because I am able to experience her rugs first hand, how they wear, and how they add dimension to my space. My goal in establishing collaborations is to be able to truly give my feedback to clients when they ask me for recommendations. As a social media content creator, many of my clients reference my blog, Instagram feed and Pinterest boards for information and inspiration.

Here are a few reasons I am so in love! First, one of Lorena’s biggest selling features is that her rugs are washable. Well, I can report IT’S TRUE! I can easily fit my rug into the washing machine. I know, I thought ‘no way’ at first, but it’s true! Being that I have a very active 14 month old daughter, the ability to easily launder the rug was a priority for me.

Second, the rugs are gorgeous! Stunning really! They are handmade rugs…down to the artisans who spin and dye the cotton fibers and weave the rugs. They use beautiful ancestral manufacturing techniques, which is what makes each individual rug so unique.

Last, but probably the most important reason is Lorena Canals creates their rugs with the environment and it’s users in mind. They are certified by AITEX, which authenticates with the European regulations for products intended to be used by children. The dyes they use are all natural. They
reduce CO2 emissions by promoting the use of natural resources and traditional means of production, and are very cognizant and mindful of how they manage waste treatment.

All in all, I would rate my Lorena Canals rug as having the best quality, functionality and most features and benefits for a moderate price point. They offer so many great options and styles to chose from.

A Love Affair

February 10, 2019

I have some of the best girlfriend’s ever so why not celebrate them BIG TIME, right? I wanted to put together a super love-filled day full of color, food, and Rosé, compliments of the Wandering Wines of course!

My coffee bar and chalkboard are one of my favorite areas to decorate! A local baker, Two Fat Cookies, designed these incredible sweet treats for us, and OMG, they were delictable!

Sources: (Pottery Barn Floating Shelves, Industrial Wall Sconces, 3-Tiered Stand, Ninja Coffee Maker, Gold T-Knob Cabinet Hardware, White Rectangle Platters, White Cake Stand)

If you ever get stuck on how to make your party look high-end or custom – just add flowers! Flowers everywhere! Select a monochromatic color pallet and get funky with your arrangements. Also, using different style vases, with different textures and heights creates visual interest. Use cake stands or wrap old shoe boxes with pretty paper and use them to create height changes! Don’t just take a bouquet from the store and plop them in a vase. Break them apart and get creative! Don’t be scared! Pinterest is your friend and provides lots of inspiration. Another simple decorative trick is to use double sided tape and stick balloons to the wall for an awesome photo backdrop!

Sources: (Red balloons, Purple & Pink balloons, custom laser cut wood names, pompom and heart garlands, heart plates, black curtain panels)

Does brunch even really happen without Bloody Mary’s? Ummm, the answer is NO. I have found THE BEST mix . The Real Dill is seriously the real deal! They not only have the most delicious bloody mix, they have the most scrumptious pickles and rimming spice! Trust me when I say it’s seriously to die for!

Another MUST have is a wine bar! My go to wine maker & distributor is the Wandering Wines. Their line of brands include a range of white, red, rosé and even includes a sparkling rosé! My favorite!

Sources: (tassel garland, similar bubbly bar banner, stemless wine glasses)

Thanks to the local Boynton Beach TooJay’s Deli who provided us with the their most delicious breakfast scrambler platter! No one left hungry!

I can’t have my girls leaving empty handed with full bellies & hearts! Everyone left with a personalized single initial goodie bag that had a sweet little heart jewelry plate as well as a mini bottle of Moscato and a 9oz. Stemless Pink Hearts Allover Tervis tumbler. A cute and simple DIY gift tag that said “will you accept this rosé was tied to each mini bottle!

2019, I am coming for you!

January 24, 2019

How in the world did I get into this thing called “social media influencing & blogging”.  What is influencing anyway?  Am I really influencing people to do something, feel something, or think about something?  When I consider that even being a possibility I am super intrigued and I get excited.  I love making friends, talking with people and being social, so this felt like the perfect fit.  I guess it all began during my pregnancy.  I thought, “Let me start using Instagram as an official organized picture storage platform to document my pregnancy & life with a baby and possibly meet some other moms that I could chat with and get advice from”.  Well, it has been perfect for that and so much more!  Never did I think I would become friends with people all around the U.S. & some in other countries.  I mean, actual friends.  Friends I talk to daily, vent to, get advice from and hang out with in person.  It honestly is so cool.  In addition, I never thought I could have so much fun.  I knew it was possible but I never really thought I it would be me.

One of those amazing relationships that have blossomed through Instagram is my girl Bonnie Stone @haveakidtheysaid.  She has decided to start a mom blog challenge with some incredible women in order to promote creative blog posts and social media support!  She has challenged us to join along in blogging at least once a month.  Genius or crazy?  The jury is still out if you ask me!  I suppose my answer will be derived after I see how long it actually takes me to write this one blog post (yes, I have opened and saved it about 20 times so far, and counting).   And, umm, did someone say challenge?  That’s all anyone has to say and it’s ON!  Who can relate?  But in all seriousness, I am scared shitless of this challenge. It’s hard to explain but I will try.  I feel like I am pretty witty in person but I don’t think I’m captivating or exciting when I write/blog.  I have never really felt comfortable or confident writing.  I second guess myself.  I suppose it’s because I have time to see and hear it out loud and have the ability to backspace the hell out of the stuff I don’t like.  Whereas, when I shoot from the hip in person, I typically just end up inserting foot in mouth if I sound like an ass (which may be more often than I like).  By the way, where is the backspace button in real life?  Anyway, back to the real reason for this blog, each month either Bonnie picks a topic or we come up with one collectively and what is more fitting to start out 2019 than, “goals for the year and how you will take care of yourself?”  So, that leads me to this first blog post… and it goes a little something like this!

That girl right there, pictured above, is my reason for this post!  I started this social media journey about a year and a half ago when I found out I was pregnant with Hendrix.  It’s insane to me that she is already ONE and how fast time is truly slipping through my fingertips.  Some of you may know (more of you probably don’t) but my journey to becoming a mom was a very long one!  11 years, the loss of a precious baby, IVF and she’s finally here.  Wow, that sounds so simple and straight forward when I type it out in black and white, but God it was anything but that!  What I can say is, I always describe it as “an amazing emotional journey that was worth the wait”.  Hendrix is our heart walking around in real life.  She is our best creation.  (We also can’t believe we kept this little human alive and thriving for a year!  Yay, go us! :))

I had been dreaming of a family life like this for as long as I can remember and it’s finally here – and more amazing then I could have thought it would be.  Ok, maybe my house could be on the inter-coastal and I have a large boat out back on a dock, but everything else is pretty damn near perfect! Ha!  Motherhood has been beautiful and has filled me up more than I imagined.  I feel my most authentic self for sure!  I am honored to be Hendrix’s mom, a wife, a daughter and friend to many.  One thing I never thought was going to happen was to create friendships from a social media platform like Instagram.  At times it has been slow and arduous but it certainly has provided me with so many awesome connections and collaborations.

As Hendrix’s first birthday was approaching I knew I wanted to make it super special being that I prayed and waited so long to celebrate her.  In reality I knew going all out was more for me but I went there anyway…and it was freaking amazing! 🙂  So how does this tie into my goals for 2019 you ask?  Well, my ultimate vision is to use Instagram as my primary source of income.  Don’t get me wrong, I am still using it for the reasons I mentioned previously, but after utilizing the platform I clearly see the potential and am ready to tap into it.  I am just now, after creating content for a good year and a half or so, starting to see steady income & product incentives.  Ultimately I am committed to blogging and creating content that others love and get excited to read, follow, like, & comment on!  So this mom blog challenge is the perfect opportunity to put that into action!

WHITE CUPCAKE STAND & DINNER PLATES: SOPHISTIPLATE @SOPHISTIPLATE

The reason for me focusing on and building my blog platform is to support amazing brands and companies who are willing to trust me to represent them in the best light.   I mean, after all, it’s a mutual benefit and gain to collaborate with companies.  In planning Hendrix’s 1st birthday, there were so many details I wanted to include.   I reached out to several companies to establish collaborations.  Many declined, many did not have space in their calendar, and a few agreed and graciously sent us product!  I am so appreciative!  Don’t get it twisted…again, that sounds so simple and straightforward, just ask and you shall receive (from some), but no, it’s quite the opposite.  The business of blogging & creating content on social media is seriously a TON of work.  There are many hours of researching companies you want to represent, communicating the benefit you bring to them as an influencer, creating the content (meaning taking 383,938 photos to get the 1 or 2 perfect ones), wrangling kids if you have them, battling the elements like weather, editing the photos, creating captivating captions, posting at the perfect peak time, and then spending hours engaging with your audience.  Phew, I am exhausted just thinking about it!  I now see why so many people give up on it so easily when the likes and comments don’t come in and no one is knocking at your door to collaborate.

Here’s the thing for me, I lead with love and am open and supportive with this community and it has reciprocated!  I have shared what I have learned and experienced.  I refuse to be stingy with it.  I receive tips and advice wherever possible, taking things with a grain of salt.  I am not the first, nor will I be the last person to blog and post content on social media, so I am committed to enjoying it to its fullest.

I will leave you with some other beautiful pictures from the party!
